The Shakopee Fire Department
The Shakopee Fire Department in Shakopee, Minnesota, is a long-serving public safety organization that has been protecting the community since 1883. It provides comprehensive fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue, hazardous materials response, and fire prevention education to residents of Shakopee and nearby townships.
The department operates out of two fire stations with a modern fleet of apparatus and highly trained personnel certified in firefighting, EMS, and specialized rescue operations. In addition to emergency response, the department engages in community outreach through safety programs, station tours, and risk-reduction initiatives focused on fire prevention and public awareness.
Recent federal FEMA SAFER grant funding is helping the department expand its full-time staffing to better meet the needs of a growing population and enhance response capabilities. Through dedication and ongoing training, the Shakopee Fire Department aims to safeguard life and property across its service area.

The Savage Fire Department
The Savage Fire Department has a long tradition of serving its community, beginning with its founding by nine dedicated volunteers in 1951, when local residents came together to protect their growing town.
Over the decades, the department expanded in size and capability, growing to dozens of firefighters by the mid-1960s as the community’s needs increased.
For much of its history, Savage relied on a paid-on-call volunteer model, meaning firefighters responded from home or work when emergencies struck.
In 2021, the department transitioned to a combination service model with both full-time and part-time firefighters to provide more consistent staffing, faster responses, and expanded medical and fire services. Today, Savage Fire operates out of 2 stations one being staffed 24/7 and the other for fire department call backs for part-time staff members. Savage emphasizes not only emergency response but also community education, fire prevention, and outreach programs.
The department’s work reflects Savage’s growth from a small town to a vibrant suburb of the Twin Cities, requiring increasingly professional and adaptable fire services.
Through changes in structure and service, the Savage Fire Department remains a key part of local safety and community resilience in the region.
